ABE Community Land Trust update September 2021

Updated: Sep 9, 2021

Aldingbourne, Barnham and Eastergate Community Land Trust (ABE CLT) was set up to develop and manage homes for which people living and working in the parishes will have priority.

Partners

The CLT has agreed outline partnership agreements with two Housing Associations (Aster and Saxon Weald) and receives support from Arun District Council to obtain sites for affordable housing. Arun DC helps fund the Sussex Community Housing Hub at Action in rural Sussex (AirS) and the CLT has benefitted greatly from the expertise of AiRS in considering and developing proposals. The CLT is also working with Southern Housing Association in relation to both the Wings Nursery and Lees Yard sites at Woodgate with the prospect of over 30 dwellings being made available for local people.

Housing Sites

In Aldingbourne the CLT is supporting the planning applications at Wings Nursery, the site being identified in the recently approved Aldingbourne Neighbourhood Plan as a site to deliver homes for local people. The plan also identifies the Lees Yard site as a potential site.

Housing Allocations Policy

Clarity about how the CLT will allocate affordable housing is essential. With help from AirS and Arun DC a Housing Allocations Policy has been developed which prioritises people with local connections while integrating with Arun District Council’s Housing Register and s106 arrangements. This will be used for the first time to nominate applicants for rented properties at Wings Nursery.

AGM

The third AGM will be held on 13th September 2021. Residents are invited to attend and details are on the website below.

CLT Membership keeps people in touch as housing schemes develop and costs as little as £1 (further donations welcome). A form is available on our website. Aldingbourne PC and Barnham and Eastergate PC appoint observers and we continue to be grateful to both Councils for their interest and financial support. Contact the CLT via infoabeclt@gmail.com if you would like further information.
