A ceremony in October 2023 marked the official launch of the first phase of properties at the Wings Wood development in Woodgate, Chichester. Aldingbourne, Barnham, and Eastergate Community Land Trust (ABE CLT) was joined by Southern Housing, Arun District Council, and Aldingbourne Parish Council as they celebrated this significant milestone in the project's journey.
The scheme, in partnership with Thakeham, will deliver 71 affordable homes with a mix of one-bedroom apartments and two- and three-bedroom houses. The homes are available through shared ownership, affordable rent and social rent, enabling more local people to get on the property ladder and helping families to stay rooted in the community.
Mike Link, Chair of the ABE CLT, highlighted the positive feedback received so far, saying, "I have spoken to the tenants who have moved in, and they are so appreciative of the priority given to people with a connection to the local area, and they are thrilled with the quality of their new homes. This is great news as our main objective is to ensure homes are genuinely affordable for people in the area."
Bunmi Atta, Director of Construction, said "With demand for affordable homes growing 10 times faster in rural areas than in towns and cities, these high-quality homes are great news for local people.
“Wings Wood offers people a balanced village lifestyle with wider connections into London, Brighton, and Portsmouth. We've already been able to welcome some new residents and look forward to completing the remaining much-needed homes over the next few months."
Cllr Michael Warden, Chair of Aldingbourne Parish Council, said, "It's great to see that the Community Land Trust we formed has strengthened the community, giving local people the opportunity to live alongside their family and friends."
Cllr Carol Birch, Deputy Leader of the Green Group and Ward Councillor for Arundel and Walberton, attended the event and joined the tour of the site to look at the progress so far. The first phase of properties is due to complete in early 2024.
